Rope ("we", "us") is the daily rope-climbing game at ropethegame.com. This page explains what information is involved when you play, who handles it, and the choices you have. Questions go to hello@ropethegame.com.
The short version
- There are no accounts. We don't ask for your name, email or anything else about you.
- Your tries, best height, streak and climber's look are saved in your own browser, on your device. They aren't sent to us.
- Rope is supported by ads from Google. Google and its partners use cookies to show and measure ads, as described below, and you can opt out of personalized ads.
- We don't sell your information for money.
What information is involved
Saved on your device
To remember today's tries, your best height, your streak, which tips you've seen and how your climber looks, Rope saves a small record in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing this site's data in your browser deletes it.
When you share a result
A shared link contains the day's rope number and your height, for example
/s/7-412. Nothing else about you is in it. Who you send it to is up to you.
Collected automatically by our host
Rope is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel receives technical information when your browser loads the site, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time, and keeps it in server logs to run and protect the service. See Vercel's privacy policy.
Visit statistics
To see how many people visit and where they come from, Rope uses Vercel Web Analytics. It uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It counts page views together with the page, the referring site, your country and your browser and device type; it tells visits apart with a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, and the results are anonymous totals that can't identify you. See Vercel Web Analytics privacy.
Collected by our advertising partner
Rope shows ads served by Google AdSense. When an ad is requested, Google and its partners may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser details, cookie or other device identifiers, and how you interact with ads, and may use cookies or similar technology on your device.
Advertising and cookies
Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on Rope. Google's advertising cookies enable it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other websites. Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads through Google, and may use cookies to do so.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of many third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized ads at aboutads.info, or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
What's stored on your device, and why:
- Rope's own record (local storage, "rope"): your day's tries, best, streak, seen tips and climber. Needed for the game to work. Kept until you clear it.
- Google advertising cookies: to show, limit and measure ads and, where you allow it, personalize them. Set and controlled by Google, for the periods Google sets.
- Your consent choice (in Europe, the UK and Switzerland): remembers what you chose in the consent message, so it isn't asked every visit.
Visitors in Europe, the UK and Switzerland
Before any advertising cookies are used or ads are personalized, you're shown Google's consent message, and nothing optional happens unless you agree. You can change your mind at any time from the privacy settings link that message places on the page.
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies: we rely on our legitimate interest in running and securing the site for the host's technical logs, and on your consent for advertising cookies and personalized ads. You have the right to access, correct or delete personal information, to object to or restrict its use, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time, and you may complain to your local data protection authority. Because we don't hold accounts or identify players, the information about you is mostly held by Google and Vercel; contact us and we'll help you reach it.
Visitors in California and other US states
We don't sell personal information for money. Under California law, letting advertising partners use cookies for ads across sites can count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out of this by turning on the Global Privacy Control signal in your browser: when Rope sees it, the page asks Google for non-personalized ads only. You can also use the opt-out links above. You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to have it deleted or corrected, and not to be treated differently for using these rights.
Rope doesn't respond to the older "Do Not Track" browser signal, which has no agreed standard; it does honor Global Privacy Control as described above.
Children
Rope isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we'll help remove it.
Where information goes
Vercel and Google are based in the United States and may process information there and in other countries, under their own safeguards for international transfers.
Keeping it safe
Rope is served only over HTTPS. Because we don't run accounts or a database of players, there's very little about you for us to hold.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also say so on this page.
